Campaign for Babylon Village elections kicks off

Condition of Village Pool subject of debate between candidates
By Carolyn James

Darrell Conway, a candidate running for a seat on the Babylon Village Board against incumbent Trustees Alice Vanderbilt and Kevin Muldowney is diving right into the issues. Conway is focusing on the condition of the Village pool, and said it is an issue that has been raised by many residents as he walks door to door.

"I am walking through the Village over the past month and one of the concerns that I keep hearing about from our younger families is, "Can you help fix up the pool complex." If elected, he said he'd do just that by forming a citizen's pool advisory committee to come up with recommendations for improvements there. "When I moved here 22 years ago, that pool was the most beautiful in the Town; now it is the most worn out."

But his opponents say that Conway, who is running on the Unity Party line, is simply fishing for issues and that the pool, one of the most beautiful facilities of any Village, has always been maintained upgraded and improved.

"Our pool is a gem and people come to look at it from all over," said Muldowney, who is seeking another four-year term in office and running with Vanderbilt on the Better Babylon Party line.
