ZBA hears application for 14 new housing units in Babylon Village
A proposal to construct housing units on property located at Park Avenue and South Carll Avenue came before the Babylon Village Zoning Board of Appeals Jan. 21. The developer, Blair Mathies of Babylon, was asking the board for relief from some setback requirements. If approved, the application will then go to the Village Board for a rezoning from retail business to Residence M District.
The application, which drew the favorable response from several residents who attended the hearing, calls for 14 housing units on 1.4 acres of land, including a small parcel of approximately 500 square feet on Sammis Avenue, which the developer purchased, to meet lost size requirements.
"In real estate there is a term 'highest and best use,' and I see no higher or better use of this property than this proposal," said resident Scott Lockwood. "It will enhance the neighborhood and I know Blair Mathies personally and there is no one better to build this project."
