2009-01-15 / People/Social

More than 150 parents and students filled the auditorium seats at Babylon Junior-Senior High School recently to learn how to put their best foot forward and successfully complete the oftenchallenging college application process. A panel of representatives from seven local and national colleges also attended the event, which was conducted by the high school guidance department, to lend their expertise.

Using a set of sample applications, the panel spoke to the audience about what they, as admissions counselors, look at when students apply. Additionally, the representatives shared a few tips for the attendees to follow in order to submit the most desirable application, including the importance of test scores, essays, letters of recommendation, and how being a well-versed student is best.

The colleges that were represented during the event included McDaniel College, Gettysburg College, Boston College, Stony Brook University, Manhattan College, St. Joseph's College and Loyola College.
