Eight members of the Babylon High School social studies department were joined by several colleagues from Babylon Elementary and Babylon Memorial Grade Schools at the 2008 Long Island Council for the Social Studies Annual Conference.

"With the theme of Literacy Skills being heavily emphasized in so many of the workshops this year, I felt that it was a great opportunity for our K-6 colleagues to join us," stated Babylon High School Director of Social Studies Dr. Mark Malaszczyk. During the conference, Babylon's teaching profes- sionals were able to attend a variety of workshops and converse with colleagues about the area of social studies. Numerous publishers were also in attendance at the conference and presented their latest products and services for social studies instruction.

"The workshops were great and we picked up some excellent samples as well," said sixth-grade teacher Rick Punzone. "I look forward to working with Rick and Eric [Solnick] to bring some fresh new materials into our sixth grade program," added Dr. Malaszczyk.
