Leonard Weinstein, Babylon graduate & longtime West Islipian
Longtime Babylon and West Islip resident Leonard Weinstein died Dec. 1, 2008. He was 90.
Born in Brooklyn, he was a graduate of Babylon High School and had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, stationed in Riverhead. In 1959, he moved to West Islip. According to his family, he was an avid rower on the Great South Bay, and loved to spend summers at the family's Captree Island home.
Mr. Weinstein was Vice President and Comptroller of Suffolk County Savings and Loan Association (now Astoria Federal Savings) headquartered in Babylon and was past president of Sinai Reform Temple in Bay Shore.
He leaves behind his son Joel and his wife Ann; his grandchildren: Michael and Ben, and his brother, Edward of Brightwaters. He was predeceased by his wife of 66-years, Pearl Ann (Doniger) on Aug. 3, 2008.
A religious service was held at Gutterman's Funeral Home, Rockville Centre, on Dec. 3, 2008. Interment followed at Mount Ararat Cemetery, Farmingdale.
