HEARD IT ON THE GRAPEVINE
MORE ON MARY SCHAPIRO Remember when Fran Pasch had her Nursery School at the basement of the Episcopal Church? That was way back in the 50's. Well, Mary was a student at the school, and Fran said that she remembers her as a very good little girl who obeyed the rules and was friendly with others. Also, we forgot to mention that when she went to Babylon High School she told Aaron Stein and other students that she was going to be the first woman President. Well, who knows, she may be on her way. LOTS GOING ON AT SOUTHWARD HO THIS CHRISTMAS SEASON Last week we were lucky enough to be invited by friends to the Candle Light Dinner. We had a great table hosted by Bettie Hanse. Also with us were Mary Rinklin, John Byrns, Mary Ellen Sullivan, Mary Jane Young, Joan Rumplick, and Millard Warren. The five course dinner was superb- -everything rated 4 stars for excellence. IT WAS A VERY FESTIVE "BUSY WOMEN" LUNCHEON MEETING held at the Club last Thursday. Paul Steinberg played Christmas carols on the piano, and accompanied Lois Baisley as she sang beautiful classical music. We had a good crowd, and it was such fun to meet and greet our friends on the happy occasion. Congrats go to Claire Meirowitz who's doing such a great job for the Association. AND IT WAS A SUPER PARTY HOSTED BY OUR EDITOR AND PUBLISHER, Carolyn and Al James at Pier 44. If seafood is your thing, you can't beat the Pier. From the fabulous appetizers to the scrumptuous desserts, everything was perfect. And it was fun visiting with the BEACON people from the AMITYVILLE RECORD and the MASSAPEQUA POST, and of course, best of all the BABYLON BEACON. Everyone had a ball! Thank you, Carolyn and Al, for a wonderful evening.
VISITOR FROM SWITZERLAND Kevin McGrath, a former local resident visited here with his brother Dermott and old friends he grew up with from the area. Kevin has had a long, distinguished career in the United Nations and has served as head of many hardship posts all over the world. He is now semi-retired (he still does consulting work with the Organization) and lives in Geneva with his wife Olga. They have three grown children. WHAT LOCAL GAL GOT LOCKED OUT ON THE PATIO OF HER ARUBA CONDO WITH HER GIRLFRIEND WEARING JUST NIGHTGOWNS? They had to wait for management to come and "free" them. All's well that ends well--the ladies "escaped" without anyone seeing them.
HATS OFF TO JUDY SKILLEN for her wonderful gift of a carillon to the Presbyterian Church in memory of her husband Gerry. Babylonians have been enjoying the beautiful music, especially at this time of the year. They played during the Old Fashioned Night of Shopping, and then lovely Christmas carols on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. They certainly added to the great Christmas festivities this year.
AN UNUSUAL BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION for Lance Reinheimer on December 23rd, which is called Festivus in some areas. Of course Lance threw a special birthday party for the occasion, which calls for guests to bring grievances and complaints. Lance had a box inside and gathered quite a few. Happy Birthday Lance. THEY CAME FROM NEAR AND FAR FOR CHRISTMAS WITH THEIR MOTHER, KAY BAKER AT HER BABYLON VILLAGE HOME. Mary Alice, called "Mimi," flew home from Dublin, Ireland where she has been living. Kathleen Gallagher visited from Nashville, Tennessee, and Patricia Baker of New York City enjoyed a two-week vacation with her babylon family for the holidays.
