Opposition to drilling by Congress is a pain in the gas
Dear Editor: Congress has received a plan for drilling for more oil in the good old U.S.A. The oil is in the ground under the Atlantic Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, Montana and North Dakota. Our do-nothing, no-drill Congress thinks we should have less oil for our homes and less gas for our cars. The do-nothing Congressional legislators think we should wear extra sweaters in the winter, put up with cold homes and ice cold showers. The legislators that think that way are crazy and they should retire from Congress. This year I am voting for a pro oil drilling President and Congress. We need our oil and we can have a clean environment and pro growth economy. After all, who wants to go back to the bad old days in the 1930s. Let's drill for oil and prosperity.

It is ironic that you published Mr. Howell's inane, pro oil rant the same week that Al Gore has challenged the country to break our oil dependency within 10 years.
By what logic (or illogic) does Mr. Howell believe that drilling for oil will lead to prosperity for anyone other than the oil companies and the Middle East countries who use some of that money to sponsor terrorism?
It is thinking like this that got us into this mess and it is certain that more of the same will not solve the problem. |

| It appears someone is drinking the Al Gore Kool-Aid. Mr. Howell makes clear economic sense. If we drill domestically for a fungible commodity, how does the Middle East prosper? If anything, it will reduce world-wide prices. Do you need proof? Why did the Democrats shut-down Congress? |
