Candidate in 15th L.D. should be held accountable for "sin of omission"

Dear Editor: We recently received an attractive brochure from the Suffolk County Democratic Party announcing the candidacy of DuWayne Gregory to be their nominee for County Legislator representing the 15th legislative district. A special election for this position is scheduled for July 29. The brochure extols the virtues of Mr. Gregory and points out that he served as legislative aide for Elie Mystal. This suggests that he has experience which would serve the best interests of the people living in the 15th district. It should be pointed out that Elie Mystal had to resign from his legislative position beDear cause he was not a resident and his tenure in office was a violation of election law. As his legislative aide, DuWayne had to know of Elie's residence and its illegality. His inaction on this information did, in effect, aid and abet an elective

fraud on the people of the 15th district. Does this conduct warrant his nomination to represent us in county government? Is this the best our democracy can do? Are our votes an exercise in futility?
