Bay Shore wins Invitational Tournament
Bay Shore's varsity softball team, shown in the photo above, recaptured the Bay Shore Invitational Tournament of Champions after losing to St. John's in 2007. This year's entries were Catholic School State Champions Holy Trinity, 2006 and 2007 Class B Long Island Champions East Rockaway and Oceanside ranked #3 in Nassau County.

Bay Shore routed East Rockaway 12-0 in the opener. The girls erupted for 22 hits as Liz Weber and Taylor McGowan had four hits apiece and collected seven RBI's between them. Cat Franzone and Nicole Marzillo each had 3 hits and Danielle Colon, Alyssa Leonard and Nickie Massoni chipped in with two hits each.

The story of the 1st contest was Freshman Taylor McGowan's perfect game. In the five inning game, due to the mercy rule, McGowan struck out seven. It was her second perfect game and third no-hitter of her career. McGowan stated, "It felt good to throw a perfect game but I couldn't have done it without my team behind me." In the championship, the Lady Marauders continued their hit parade. They scored dic runs in the bottom of the first, highlighted by Kelsey Fischer's double and a bases- loaded single by Nikki Surkes. Fisher finished the day with a three-for-three afternoon and Surkes was a perfect four-for-four with three RBI's. Liz Weber had the complete game victory and spread out eight hits and struck out three. "It was great that we won our Invitational after losing in '07. We answered back with an offensive show. Taylor McGowan and Liz Weber were named Co-MVP's. In addition to throwing a perfect game, McGowan was five-for-eight with four RBI's and three runs scored. Liz Weber was also five-for-eight with seven RBI's and five runs scored. At this point, the girls are now 15-1 and ranked number one in New York State.
