Marie Capitano, a member of the S umpwams Garden Club and founder of the Indian Lake Garden Club, was awarded a Federated Garden Clubs of NYS and District II Award of Honor for her service in the the Garden Clubs of NYS. Capitano has been a member of the Sumpwams Garden Club for 25 years, holding numerous positions including president. She has served on the District Board for 12 years as Suffolk South County chairman, youth chairman and garden therapy chairman. She has worked on the District Flowers Show in many capacities winning numerous blue ribbons. She is also a life member of New York State and a life member of Na- tional Garden Clubs. Garden therapy has always played a large part in her life. Work- ing with veterans and nursing home patients to create floral arrangements for the last 15 years brought such joy that Capitano decided to expand her garden therapy to children, especially the learning challenged. She hopes to expand this program to many of the schools in District II. The Award of Honor was given to her for her work with garden therapy.
