Irene Triani, Babylon resident

Longtime Babylon resident and active local volunteer Irene L. Triani died March 25, 2008. She was 87 years old and was the founder of an Engineering Scholarship in her husband's name.

She was born the oldest of nine children to Joseph and Isabelle Sileo in Connecticut and lived in Lindenhurst for more than 40 years. She founded the Howard J. Triani Engineering Scholarships in Lindenhurst Schools where she was active in the PTA. She moved to Babylon in 1989 and lived there for 19 years.

She was active in the Lindenhurst Historical Society, the Christ Episcopal Church in Babylon and at the East Neck Nursing Home where she was recognized for more than 1,500 hours of service.

Mrs. Triani leaves behind her children: Nancy Kapfer and her husband Bruce of Barneveld, New Jersey and Wes and his wife Janet of Bayport; her grandchildren: Jennifer, Robert, Elizabeth, Lee, Alexander and Samantha; her great grandchildren: Zachary and Austin; her brothers: Joseph Jr., James and Theodore Sileo. She was predeceased by her husband Howard in 1969.

She reposed at the Bayport-Blue Point Funeral Home on March 29, 2008 where religious services were held. Interment followed in the Long Island National Cemetery at Pinelawn.
