New officers installed in Power Squadron

The Great South Bay Power Squadron of the Unites States Power Squadrons has installed its new officers for 2008-2009. The Change of Watch meeting was held Fri., Feb. 29 at the Rusy-Bohm American Legion Post, Nassau Avenue, Islip.

Joseph V. Gagliano of Islandia was installed as Squadron commander. Also installed with Commander Gagliano was Gary LaMarca of West Islip, who is executive officer; Michael Becker of Holbrook as Squadron education officer; Luann Kazanecki of East Islip as administrative officer; Thomas Pilek of Medford as secretary; Ronald Murphy of North Babylon as treasurer and William Wedin of Brentwood as assistant education officer.

Commander Gagliano is a Squadron Advanced Pilot, of the Untied States Power Squadrons and served as the executive officer over the past year. His previous Squadron responsibilities include being executive officer,. administrative officer, member of the executive committee for the past three years and has been a Squadron Vessel Safety Examiner since 2002. Gagliano has received the following educational advancements and awards in the Squadron: achieve the grade of Advanced Pilot in 2006, earned the Educational Proficiency Award in 2006, Skipper Award in 2005 and the Pilot Award in 2006. Commander-elect Gagliano is also a senior member of the United States Power Squadron.
