Babylon and West Islip voters pass library budgets

Voters in the Babylon and West Islip library districts approved their budgets.

Babylon Public Library voters approved the library's 2008-2009 budget by a vote of 172 to 98. This budget represents a two-percent increase in the tax rate for an increase of 18-cents per $100.00 of assessed valuation.

Three Board members were elected from a field of four candidates: Andrew Calamanco for a two-year term with 147 votes, Frank Fronzo for a three-year term with 149 votes and Corinne Robinson for a fiveyear term with 151 votes. Challenger Arlene Weber received 127 votes.

On April 15, West Islip residents approved their $3.2 million operating budget by a vote of 312 to 136. Joan Schumacher was reelected to a five-year term as library trustee with 310 votes.

"The Board wishes to express their appreciation to all those residents who participated in this year's vote," said Board President Davine Schwarz. "We look forward to another year of serving the West Islip community's educational, recreational and cultural needs
