Sweeney lauded for leadership by UCP

A distinguished representation of community and business leaders, elected and appointed officials were among the 100 attendees at the 2008 United Cerebral Palsy of Suffolk Legislative Breakfast. This year's event was made possible through the generous support of co-sponsors, the Bethpage Federal Credit Union and People's Alliance Federal Credit Union. Keynote speaker, Seth Harris of New York Law School, addressed the complexities and challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in their daily lives and shared statistics on progress that has and has NOT been achieved since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). He outlined the UCP Life Without Limits Project, a national grass roots initiative advocating for change. Prior to Harris's remarks, New York State Assemblyman Robert Sweeney (11th Assembly District) received the 2008 UCP Suffolk Government Leadership Award. Assemblyman Sweeney has a long history with United Cerebral Palsy of Suffolk and has been instrumental in partnering with the organization to offer support to individuals with disabilities, through both innovative programs and government grants.

Nicholas Lacetera, President and CEO of People's Alliance Federal Credit Union was presented with the 2008 UCP - Community Leadership Award. A friend to UCP Suffolk for more than 11 years, he was recognized for his personal commitment to the Long Island community of individuals with disabilities, and the ongoing generosity of PAFCU.
