HEARD IT ON THE GRAPEVINE
BY JANE WARREN

IT'S THE TALK OF THE TOWN. People are excited abut the upcoming opening of the new drug and pharmacy store in the building formerly housing the West Marine boating supply shop. We have heard from an excellent source that the store will open May 1. We hear that they will be delivering, which will be of enormous assistance, especially to the elder members of our Village. We hear that other offices and shops will occupy the building, and they'll carry items not available elsewhere. Our Village continues to grow, and these new stores will enhance the community.

THEY'RE GETTING READY. Yes, Sue and Richard Beery of Cadman Avenue hosted a baby shower for relatives and friends for their daughterin law Janet at The Hook several weeks ago.

Some 13 guests attended and enjoyed a most delicious luncheon. Sue Berry said that the food and the ambience at The Hook were both first rate, and everyone commented about the beautiful view and the excellent service. Janet and Christian Berry, who live in Holbrook, are expecting their first child, a daughter, in May. We'll let you know when the happy event occurs.

GOOD NEWS. Trisha Snover has completely recovered after gall bladder surgery at Good Sam several weeks ago. Way to go Trish!

BUDGETS PASS IN BABYLON AND WEST BABYLON. Not enough voters went to the polls to vote on the library budgets; they never do, but at least Babylon and West Babylon voted their budgets in last week. Babylon voters okayed their budget by 172 to 92. It was a happy day for the Babylon residents, but there was a tinge of sadness to, when it was learned that a former office manager was arrested on charges of larceny. And, in West Babylon, the budget easily passed by a vote of 147 to 29. Let's hope more voters go to the polls next year. Our libraries are the cultural centers of our communities.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT IS BIG SUCCESS. Lonna Corso Sullivan's photography show attracted a large crowd at the exhibit of her work and reception held at the Village Art and Frame Shop April 13. Jon Taylor, owner and proprietor of the shop said that it was one of the largest crowds to attend his shows. Lonna graduates from the State University of Farmingdale. She grew up in Babylon and we wish her much success in the future.

CONGRATULATIONS to Sue Madey on the 5th anniversary of her popular, trendy shop Elizabeth Martin, which offers wonderful Vera Bradley items for little girls and their moms. Everyone loves a "Vera Bradley." All this, after Sue suffered a serious leg fracture last fall. Let's hope for many, many more years of success for a great gal.
