Travelers Club meeting held

On March 31 the Travelers Club met at the home of Nancy Newton to continue its study of China. Betsy Davison presented a paper on traditional Chinese painting, which based on the eight basic strokes of calligraphy with other particular strokes used for bamboo, trees, rocks and mountains. Landscape paintings from the Song Dynasty are often seen as the pinnacle of Chinese art, because it is believed to represent patterns found in the natural world, scholars and owners would often add comments of appreciation, a poem or their seals directly on the paintings, thus adding layers of meaning to the art.

After the presentation, the members viewed a film on some of the most important cities in China and how they are expanding with stunning modern architecture.
