Chinese caligraphy being taught at West Islip Library

Janet Loehr, a retired West Islip teacher, met with the Traveler's Club at the West Islip Library on Monday, March 10, 7 p.m. to acquaint the members with Chinese caligraphy. This is the first of three Chinese perfections covered. The other two perfections are painting and poetry which the group will cover in the future. Loehr told of the origin of Chinese language which differs according to regions of this large country.

Then Loehr provided materials for each member to make their own ink and showed how to twirl the brush to a point. After practicing with her, each member made a bookmark with words "Under God all men are brothers."
