by Tiffany Elliott

Longtime Oak Beach resident and volunteer Dorothy "Dot" A. Forgét died March 31, 2008. She was 94 years old.

Born in Brooklyn as Dorothy Tobin, she lived in Bellmore and taught third grade for the North Bellmore School District for 23 years. She spent summers in Oak Beach until moving there permanently in the 1970s.

Mrs. Forgét was active in community affairs as a founding volunteer of FLIPS (Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society), secretary of the Oak Beach Gulls Women's Club and a charter member of the Babylon YMCA. She was also affectionately known as the "Church Lady" for caring for the Oak Beach Chapel Church.

"She is sure a tough act to follow," said her daughter, Suzanne Boehmcke. "My mother was always active and involved with many things. We were blessed to have had her with us."

She also leaves behind her children: Nancy Brennan and her husband Bob; Barbara Devoti, Jack and his wife Karen and her son-in-law Donalod Boehmcke; her ten grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and her compassionate caregivers: Ann, Galyna and Martha. She was predeceased by her husband of more than 45 years, John J. "Jack."

She reposed at the Fredrick J. Chapey Funeral Home in West Islip on April 2, 2008. A Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial was held April 4, 2008 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in Babylon. Private cremation followed.

Donations in Mrs. Forgét's name can be sent to St. Joseph's Parish Outreach, 40 Grove Place, Babylon, New York 11702.
