read to feed program

Students and parents participated in the Read to Feed program at Daniel Street Elementary School. Read to Feed is a reading incentive program that heightens awareness of global problems such as hunger and poverty. The money raised will be donated to Heifer International, who sends livestock and environmental training to impoverished villages.

The program was sponsored by the Daniel Street Student Council and the Compact Committee. This year the school raised a total of $1,530.75. The grand total for the past three years is $4,158.65. The class that raised the most money was Mrs. Terry's class. The top three fundraisers were kindergartener Nicolette Vita, first grader Nicholas Giambalvo and third grader Emily Barcikowski. Keri Zadik and Amy Phillips are the Student Council co-advisors who coordinated the event.
