Heard It On The Grapevine
By Jane Warren

THE BABYLON YACHET CLUB HOLDS ITS FIRST PARTY OF THE SEASON. Yes, last Sunday evening a group of members and their guests gathered together at the Venetian Yacht Club to celebrate the "official" opening of the new season of the Club. A buffet supper of seafood, salads and a carving board of roast beef, turkey, etc. was on the menu, and everyone is looking forward to another summer of swimming, sailing and other activities for the members. We'll be seeing everyone starting at the end of May.

NINETEEN ISLIP RESTAURANTS HOLD "RESTAURANT WEEK." Took advantage of the reduced priced and enjoyed a delicious luncheon at "The Lake House" with friends last week. There wasn't an empty seat in the place and our waitress Jaimie did a fabulous job which leads us to some possible changes in the Restaurant.

EXCLUSIVE TO THE BEACON: Talked to the manager who tells us that the response to the lunches for Restaurant Week were terrific and they are considering opening permanently for lunch every day. Some seniors do not feel comfortable driving at night, so day time dining would be a plus for many. We'll keep you posted.

IS IT PERMANENT? Saw the left turn light operating last week at Deer Park Avenue and Montauk Highway. Let's hope that for drivers' sake that it continues to function.

WELCOME BACK Alice and Will Zaruka had a mahvelous time on a recent visit with their son John and his wife Linda in Las Vegas and Ventura, California. John is now in charge of seven establishments in the California area. Alice said "our kids spoiled us, and we enjoyed every minute of it, from start to finish." Will, your seat is waiting for you at the "Sewer Society" breakfast.

A BEAUTIFUL NEW ROOF FOR OUR HISTORICAL SOCIETY. Drive by and you'll see what's happening. Our Village historian, Alice Zaruka said they hope to be open by April 12, but it may be later. All of the pictures on the wall had to be removed, and other work had to be performed before they could start work on the roof. It's such a beautiful old building. We're glad they (the Village) are maintaining it so well.

FROM THE GOOD NEWS DEPARTMENT. It just hasn't been the same in the Village since Mary Freund was spending the winter in Stuart, Florida. But now we hear she's back at home. Everyone is so glad to have Mary here, especially her fellow bridge players.

AND MORE GOOD NEWS. Mary Jane Young is back from a fabulous cruise to the Caribbean islands. Mary Jane had a wonderful time with her sister and her son and his family. We missed both Marys and are glad you're back in our beautiful Village.

YOU'RE INVITED to a Photography Exghibit of the local artist Lona Sullivan. The reception will be held on April 13 at the Village Art and Frame Shop on Deer Park Avenue from 1 to 5 p.m. and refreshments will be served. The Village is becoming an artistic jewel - with all of the musical and art programs being held. Right on.
