On Jan., 16, the senior class at West Babylon High School attended a Financial Literacy Day given by The Right Start Foundation. The program was offered by Giovanna Ramirez and Connie LoCascio along with many businesses.

The program was designed to stimulate the experience of everyday living. The student chose their occupation, and then salary and marital status were assigned. They were then given a mock pay check and check register. As they visited with Chase-Islip, Stop&Shop and L&B Lincoln Mercury of West Babylon, Northwestern Mutual, Caldwell Banker of Babylon and the Attorney General Office on Student Loans, they were asked to deduct each expense from their checkbook to ultimately see the value of a budget and the reality of cost of living.

This interactive hands on financial event, provides the opportunity to effectively educate students on topics of personal finance. Further information is available at www.mycreditspy.org.
