Dredge spill on Sunrise Highway stalls traffic

Suffolk County Police Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Unit today issued several summonses to the operator of a dump truck that spilled half a ton of debris across Sunrise Highway. W. Chavez-Duran, 31, of 31 West 10th St., Huntington Station, was driving an 18-wheel dump truck for Sky Materials in Calverton, when the rear gate opened. A half ton of dredge spoil spilled onto eastbound Sunrise Highway at exit 39, Hubbard’s Path. Some of the debris also spilled onto the eastbound Sunrise Highway Service Road.

The incident caused the closure of Sunrise Highway at exit 39 from 10 to 11:08 a.m., as well as the eastbound Sunrise Highway Service Road from 11:08 a.m. to 11:32 a.m. for clean-up by New York State Department of Transportation.
