Editorial Months ago, we reported on the conditions of the Moose Lodge on Union Boulevard in West Islip, noting that the dilapidated building is vacant and an eyesore. At the time, Town officials said that some plans were under discussion to develop the site for mixed use- housing and offices, including some space for the Moose organization to hold its meetings as it has done there for years.
To date, the site's appearance has gotten more dilapidated and looks even worse than when we first reported on it. While we understand that plans for the major changes being sought take time, there is no excuse for not maintaining this site in some decent manner. The property owners should cut the grass, pick up the litter, secure the boards over the doors and windows and be a good neighbor. If they don't then the Town should go in there, do it and put the costs for that work on the tax bill.
