A Mass in memory of Alice P. Finnerty, a West Islip resident and accomplished painter who died Feb. 6, 2008, will be held Easter Mon., March 24 at 9 a.m. at the Chapel in Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip. Another Mass is also scheduled for May 3, 2008 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, 39 North Carll Ave., Babylon.

Alice Finnerty, who sold her still-life and landscape paintings locally, died following a short illness. She was 88 years old and was as well known for her calligraphy and pen drawings as she was for her crimson hair and sunny smile.

"She was a vibrant, striking redhead and my best friend," said Pat Beck, who added that Mrs. Finnerty was very well known in the area and very popular.

Mrs. Finnerty lived in Babylon for many years, before moving to the Arnold House in West Islip in 1978. She was an avid swimmer, yoga enthusiast, bridge player and traveler, according to her daughter, Trisha Lamb.

"Her life was always full," said her daughter, adding that she would be missed by a loving circle of family and friends.

Mrs. Finnerty leaves behind two children, eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; and many friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter J., and two other children.
