Two locals killed in motor vehicle accident

Two Babylon residents were killed when the vehicle in which they were passengers collided with a tractor trailer on Melville, Sat., March 15. Police gave this account:

Isaac Sylvain, 20, of 34 Hilltop Ave., West Babylon, was driving his 1992 Toyota Camary westbound on Spagnoli Road when he lost control of the vehicle causing it to slide passenger side first into an oncoming tractor trailer.

Falene Sylvain, 21, of 34 Hilltop Ave., West Babylon was pronounced dead at the scene.Myrlene Daniel, 42, of 45 Jefferson Ave., Wyandanch was taken by medevac to Stony Brook University Medical Center where she was also pronounced dead. Both of the victims were passengers in Sylvain's car. The driver , Isaac Sylvain, was taken to Huntington Hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer, Robert Hopke, 40, of 3576 Jerusalem Ave., Wantagh, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Sylvain was issued a summons for operating a vehicle without a driver's license.

Following an inspection by the Suffolk County Police Motor Carrier Division, Hopke received two summons, one for an Uninspected Trailer and one for an Unregistered Trailer.
