The Breakfast Home Economics Club at Babylon Junior-Senior High School in the Babylon School District coordinated a week-long collection drive to benefit Unicef. The approximately 25 student-members, with the help of advisor Cynthia Theiss and global history teacher Sheila Vaswani, rallied their peers together to collect $1,000 in spare change during the homeroom period for use in providing relief to Africa, Darfur, and Sudan.

"It feels really good to lend our time to help a worthy cause like Unicef," stated seventh grader Matt Zeterberg. "I hope this donation will go towards making our peers from around the world happy and healthy."

This year, in an effort to stretch the donations made, the George Harrison Foundation pledged to match all contributions. So, in addition to the $1,000 the school collected, the foundation donated an added $1,000 in Babylon's name.

While this was a project focused on community service and donation, the club wanted to reward their fellow classmates who went above and beyond to help make the collection a success. For the winning homeroom, Ms. Malone's seventh graders with a total of $89.85, the club cooked up a hearty breakfast. Also noteworthy was Ms. Vaswani's homeroom, which came in second with an $87.32 donation.

Through a schoolwide collection drive to benefit Unicef, coordinated by the school's Breakfast Home Economics Club, Babylon Junior-Senior High School in the Babylon School District collected an outstanding $1,000.
