Longtime Babylon Village resident and volunteer Francis "Fran" T. Schweitzer died Feb. 4, 2008. He was 73-years-old and was active in the Babylon Booster Club and in the Babylon Little League.

"He was a great guy and and an active athletic booster for the high school," said Babylon Village Mayor Ralph Scordino. "He was a nice man and Babylon Village will miss him for everything he did."

Born in Rahway, New Jersey and raised in Hartwick, New York, he moved to Long Island in 1960. In 1961 he bought a home in Babylon Village with his wife, Deanna, and they raised three children here. He loved to spend his free time attending the sporting events of his nine grandchildren, studying genealogy and summering at his house in Hartwick, New York.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Schweitzer is survived by his children: Karen Creswell and her husband James of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia; Tim and his wife Ginny of Babylon, and John and his wife Jeannie of West Islip. His grandchildren, Timmy, Bryan, Katie, Eric, Stephen, Jacqueline, Danielle, Kristina and Holly and his brother Herb and his wife Rose of Ormond beach, Florida also survive him, as do his sisters-in-law: Norma of Ballston Spa, New York; Catherine of Hartwick, New York; Kathy Martino and her husband Al of Seaford, New York, and Nancy Wray and her husband Dan of Rahway, New Jersey; his father-in-law Joseph Malchick of Babylon and many nieces and nephews.
