Heard It On The Grapevine
By Jane Warren

Ed Weinstein
THE MYSTERY IS SOLVED. Yes, we now know who left the beautiful dozen long-stemmed red roses on our porch last Sunday morning. It was good friend, Jeanne Ramsay. Here's what happened. Seems that the Long Island Yacht Club was celebrating its 50th anniversary that Saturday night, and honored the original members, Alice and Will Zaruka, Joan Kennedy and Jeanne and John Ramsay by presenting them with flowers. And, then Jeanne decided to present them to us by leaving them on our front porch on the way home from the Long Island Yacht Club. They were a real surprise and we send many thanks to Jeanne who is the most generous and giving person in the community. We're still enjoying them on our living room table. Thanks again Jeanne.

IT WAS A BITTERSWEET OCCASION when a group of her friends held a luncheon for Dot Hall at "Gatsby's" last week. Dot has lived with her family on Parkwood Road in West Islip for many years before moving to the Harbor Club apartments several years ago. Dot and her husband Charlie and their children were active in the Babylon Yacht Club and in sailing and boating over the years. She'll move to Florida to live with her son Scott and his family next week. The ladies who lunched were: Bettie Hanse, Rinn Robinson, Catharine Fallon, Mary Jane Young, Mary Rinklin, Marilyn Winters, Kay Baker, Mary Howell, Joan St. John, Libby Orr, Fran Pasch and Lucy Trumble. They presented Dot with a beautiful painting of the Babylon Yacht Club. The painting was a work by well-known local artist Kathryn Herzy.

LOCAL LION HONORED. Suffolk County Lions Past District Governors Association of Lion Clubs has elected Lion Ed. B. Weinstein the County Man of the Year. His credentials will be presented at the New York State Convention this year in Buffalo.

IT WAS POURING CATS AND DOGS AND THE WIND WAS BLOWING UP A STORM onFriday night, but that didn' t stop the people who love to "dine out" on Fridays. We had dinner with our friends Marilyn and Joe Flammin at the Parkwood Cafe. It was great to see Mohammed as handsome as ever; also got to chat with Libby Orr, Bill Gerek and Catharine Fallon and the beautiful waitress Michelle. Then we heard it on the grapevine that Jeanne Ramsay and her guests Mary Ellen Sullivan, Olive Lazio and Bernadette Nee were having a fine time at Southward Ho. Also at the club were Rose Costello and the Joel Sikowitzes. Every seat was taken- ditto for the Parkwood.

YOUNG (?) TED SHIEBLER WHO HAS REPRESENTED GOOD SAMARITAN HOSPITAL FOR ALMOST 50 YEARS was feted by family and friends recently when he celebrated his 80th (!) birthday Fri., Dec. 7. The Shiebler entourage drove up to Moorpark to the lovely decorated home of Jonathan and Debbie Shiebler where they were treated to cocktails and later to a spectacular dinner at their Moospart Country Club. On Sunday, Dec. 9, some 40 Californian friends and former Babylonians Dan and Betty Fitzpatrick were served brunch at the the home of Amy and Carl Shiebler David in Laguana Nigel. Ted began his service to Good Samaritan on Feb. 2, 1958.

At right, "birthday boy" Ted Shiebler.
