Heard It On The Grapevine IT'S GREAT TO BE BACK. Yes, after almost two months on leave, it's a happy occasion for this writer when the time comes to get on the phone and get typing the news of the community. We sure missed it, and we'll do our best to play "catch up" in the weeks to come. AND SPEAKING OF BEING OUT OF THE LOOP we're so glad to welcome the Delphi Diner - open again after several days of closure last week. The "Sewer Society" gathered for their weekly breakfast meetings only to discover a big "Closed" sign. And the good news is it opened again after only a few days. Everyone is happy to have one of their favorite "hangouts" for good meals at breakfast, lunch and dinner. IT'S NICE TO HAVE TIM BOYLAN HERE. Tim is up from North Carolina and just completed a beautiful ramp for us. Now we can go in or out of our house without a worry about falling down or up the outside stairs thanks to Tim's excellent work. THIS ONE IS ALWAYS A BIG SUCCESS. Yes, it's a great way to cure those winter blues - celebrate the end of February with the "Busy Women." This year the annual fundraiser cocktail party was held at the West Islip home of Anita North on Sun., Feb. 24. Fran Pasch co-chaired the event with Anita, and the guests all agreed, the food was delicious and the ambience was great too. Everyone was happy to get together after the long, cold winter months. Three baskets of cheer were raffled off and the lucky winners were Anita North who won the Gemelli basket; Lois Baisley won the Union wine and liquor basket and Joy Torrey took home the wine basket. Gene Turner and "Packy" McGinnie did a fab job preparing and then tending the bar and Fran Pasch, Anita and Elizabeth Karoly passed hors d'oeuvres and worked in the kitchen all afternoon long. Many thanks to the loyal local businesses who donated food and other assistance to the party: Gemelli's, Parkwood Café and last but certainly not least, Keyser's Flowers, who have donated the centerpiece for many years. Seen across the crowded room were our Mayor Ralph Scordino, Trustees Debbie Basile and Kevin Muldowny and of course he always make the scene, our Suffolk County Legislator, Wayne Horsley. Thanks to all who worked so hard to make the party a success and help raise funds for a scholarship for one of our Babylon High School graduates. A VERY BUSY HOUSEHOLD: There's lot's going on in the Rendich family these days. Adam Bouvier and his sister Troy are R.O.T.C. students at Scranton University in Pennsylvania. Adam will graduate this year with a commission in the U.S. Army, and Troy will graduate as an Army nurse in two years. Both are excellent students. They are the children of Jeanne Bouvier of Pennsylvania and the grandchildren of Peg Rendich of Babylon Village. And there's a new baby in the family. Rachel Gogino (former Olympic ice skater) and her husband Tom have a son, Thomas John Gogino, born on Feb. 7. Thomas joins his sister Kylie Grace, age two. They live in Juno Beach, Florida. Thomas John is the great grandson of Peg Rendich. IT'S A BOY. Kristen and Todd Shaw are thrilled to announce the arrival of their first child, Brady Thomas born at Winthrop Hospital, weighing eight pounds, 13 ounces. The baby's maternal grandparents are Jane and Tom Kane of Babylon Village and his paternal grandparents are Meddi and Alan Shaw of Shelter Island. BEAUTIFUL PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBIT. The work of Evan Reinheimer has been on exhibit at Astoria Federal Savings and Loan during the month of February. The photos are entitled Kite Aerial Photography (KAP). Evan is the son of Lance Reinheimer of North Babylon and Donna Reinheimer of Maine and he is the grandson of Bettie Hanse of Babylon. Evan is a graduate of Suffolk Community College and the State University of New York at Farmingdale. His work got excellent notices from all who visited the exhibit, and he sold three photos. Way to go Evan. LOCAL GAL AUDITIONS FOR "BILLY ELLIOT." Miranda Lupion auditioned for the musical Billy Elliot in New York City, and although she didn't make the final cut, she really enjoyed competing with professional singers and dancers. Miranda is the daughter of Meredith Lupion of Babylon Village and Gregg Lupion of West Babylon. TALES FROM THE EMERALD ISLE. Jim Hawkins, the Irish Story Teller, entertains with stories and songs at the Conklin House, Deer Park Avenue, Babylon, Sun. March 16, 3 to 5 p.m. As an added attraction the Hibernian step dancers will also perform. Reservations are a must. Call 669-8164 or 669-1938.
PLEASE HELP US SOLVE A MYSTERY. When we went outside to pick up our paper on Sunday morning, we not only found our paper, but a beautiful bouquet of red roses wrapped in a Scotch plaid wool blanket. Who sent the flowers? Please call us if you're the one.
