Police identify man struck and killed by car
First Squad Detectives said that Crowther was from England and had been living here for several years. He was employed at Stein Industries, Amityville. "He was a good friend; a person who lived life to the fullest," said his friend Alex McCluskey who worked with Crowther for the past six years. "For him, life was a parade." Crowther loved playing online poker and was an outstanding chess player who played online and often had 40 games going at one time, said his longtime friend Christopher "Trout" Horn. He was also well known in Amityville and was a "frequent visitor at local pubs," said Horn. "He was the joker of the pack, a great guy," said Horn. "We will never forget him because you never forget someone who makes you laugh." Crowther was found lying in the roadway at approximately 12 a.m. by Amityville Police. Amityville Village Fire Department was called and he was pronounced dead at the scene by an Amityville EMT volunteer. The driver of an unknown vehicle was observed leaving the scene prior to the arrival of Amityville Village Police Officers and an investigation into the incident is underway by police. Anyone who can provide information on the incident is being asked to call police at 631-854-8152. All information will be kept confidential.
Services for Crowther were held Friday at Powell Funeral Home. His body was sent home to England for burial.
