Helping Hands to hold holiday gift drive Helping Hands in West Islip, Inc. will be holding its spring holiday gift drive, Wed., March 12, 3 to 5 p.m. Donations and volunteers will gather at the American Legion Hall, 340 Union Blvd., West Islip. This year the group would like to provide 3000 needy children with a holiday basket or spring gift. Please fill some of those baskets with toys, stuffed bunnies, slippers, socks, grass, plastic eggs, candy and happy meal toys. You can make a theme basket for a baby or with a specific character in mind. Children are especially delighted when you fill a gently used lunch box, backpack, or pocketbook with goodies. You may fill plastic bags or decorated lunch bags with treats. Every gift should be sent in for clean, decorated and ready for distribution. Everyone is welcome to participate. We are counting on scouts, religious education classes, and offices, coffee cloches and groups of friends to come together for the children in order to meet the goal.
The Helping Hands operates on no funds. Please ask around if anyone can donate candy and plastic bags in all sizes including garbage bags. Those of you, who are coming down to help at the hall, please bring your own scissors, tape, ribbon and a bag of candy.
