March LI Parrot Society meeting features avian veterinarian The March 19 meeting of the Long Island Parrot Society will feature a presentation on Advanced Avian Diagnostics by board certified avian veterinarian Heidi Hoefer. Dr. Hoefer's practice, Island Exotic Veterinary Care in Huntington is Long Island's only pet hospital devoted exclusively to birds and exotic pets. Also at the meeting is a book signing by author Rosemarie Riechel, whose new illustrated storybook, Flight to Freedom features a Senegal parrot and a yellow-naped Amazon parrot modeled after club members' birds. The Long Island Parrot Society meets the third Wednesday of each month at American Legion Post #94, 22 Grove Pl., Babylon Village. The doors open at 6:30 p.m.; program begins at 7:45. All welcome are welcome; humans only- please leave your birds at home. Non-members pay a $5 guest fee.
