For Love of Jackie bone marrow drive

Five-year-old Jacqueline Rose, daughter of Cynthia Poeggel of Lindenhurst, is in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant. Her mother learned of her leukemia on Christmas Eve, 2006 and two days later, the leukemia was identified as acute myeloid leukemia (AML). AML has a low survival rate but, according to her mother, Cyndi, Jacqueline has "amazing spirit and courage."

Jacqueline is of South Asian descent, so members of the South Asian community are especially urged to be tested for compatibility.

To help in the search for a donor, Farmingdale State College is lending it support and hosting a donor drive Sat., March 8 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Nold Hall lobby on the Farmingdale State College campus.

Testing for a bone marrow match is a quick and painless mouth swab and will be collected by DKMS (Deutsche Knochenmarkspenderdatei" or German Bone Marrow Donor Center in English) Americas. For information, go to www.dkmsamericas.org or call 1-866-340-DKMS (3567).
