Alleghany Avenue School in Lindenhurst holds social emotional learning presentation

Social Worker Florri Krefsky presented a special lesson to Lindenhurst's Alleghany Avenue Teachers on Social Emotional Learning (SEL).

She started the session off with icebreakers for adults and children to use in "getting to know you better" situations. Asking another person their values, attitudes, what they do in their spare time, what their funniest and most embarrassing moments, and someone's professional dream.

"What teacher had the most positive influence, and why?" was asked by Ms. Krefsky. The discussion led to the characteristics of a good teacher including being supportive, flexible, honest, caring, and understanding. The most important characteristic is listening to the needs of the child and to emphasize the positives.
