North Babylon seniors receive Suffolk Zone awards
The Suffolk Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NYSAHPERD) honors two senior students each year, one male and one female, for outstanding achievements in athletics. The criterion for this award includes scholastic achievement and outstanding character, as well as leadership and role model qualities.
The North Babylon Athletics Department announced that the Suffolk Zone award winners for 2007-2008 are Riley Perry and Michael Cherry.
Perry is a high honor roll student who maintains a 98 grade point average (GPA). According to her teachers and coaches, Riley is the embodiment of the conscientious student athlete. She is always looking to assist her teachers, coaches and classmates whether on the fields or in physical Education class. She distinguishes herself from the crowd with her impressive self-reliance and constant focus on the tasks at hand. Physical education provides her with time to be with friends and other classmates. Riley will be attending the University of Massachusetts on an academic and athletic scholarship in the fall. Cherry is a high honor roll student who maintains a 95 GPA. He is a young man who takes a great deal of pride in all that he does. He gives 110 percent in physical education class, on the fields and on the mats. His maturity and spirited personality is evidenced by his excellent rapport with his peers and teachers. He remains positive and is a model of persistence and effort at all times.
