Holidays and cultures from around the world

Shown in the photo, students at Babylon Elementary School in the Babylon School District recently had the chance to learn about the world's different cultures and the holidays celebrated throughout the world during a cultural program provided by Janice Buckner, a singer, performer, and puppeteer.
In Babylon, character education is a major component of the district's educational curriculum. In an effort to help the students at Babylon Elementary School better understand and have an appreciation for the different cultures that make up the world, the school hosted an in-school assembly program with Janice Buckner, a singer, performer, and puppeteer.

During the program the students learned about the different holidays celebrated around the world and differences among cultures, including the various ways people say hello and conventional holiday dances.

Through creative songs and color- ful puppets that came to life with the help of Buckner, teacher volunteers, and the audience, the students learned about the traditions of different countries holiday celebrations, and that no matter how different everyone is, they are all the same on the inside.

"This program was a true multicultural experience for the students one that helps them to learn about different holidays that are celebrated around the world and why they are observed," said Principal Dana Spincola.
