West Islip man seriously injured in MVA in West Bay Shore

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured a West Islip man. Police said that William Devine, 40, of 871 Stanley Street, West Islip, was driving his 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII westbound on Route 27A in West Bay Shore at approximately 4 a.m. Thurs., Feb. 21. Devine lost control of the vehicle and skidded into the eastbound lane and collided with a 2006 GMC box truck being operated by Roby Golub, 41, of 7 Crescent Street, Coram. Golub was delivering bread for All Island Bread Co., Inc., at the time of the crash.

Golub was transported to Southside Hospital for a dislocated elbow and a fractured wrist. Devine was airlifted by Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center for a broken neck and serious internal injuries.

A preliminary investigation by Third Squad detectives indicates that excessive speed by Devine was a factor in the crash. There was no sign of alcohol use by either driver. Police officers from Crime Scene and Motor Carrier Safety Units assisted in the investigation. Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.
