Safe boating course comes to Babylon Library in April

The New York State Boating Safety Course will be held Saturdays, April 5, 12, 19 and 26, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Babylon Public Library, 24 South Carll, Ave., Babylon at 631-669-1624.

New York state law requires that all boaters between the ages of 10 and 18 pass the official N.Y.S. Boaters Certification Course in order to operate a motor boat or Personal Water Craft (jet ski) alone. Anyone 10 to 14 years of age and on a jet ski must be supervised by someone 18 years or older who holds a boating safety certificate and is within 500 feet. This course is free to anyone under 18, however, all are welcome to attend as a boater's safety certificate is required for anyone using a jet ski, regardless of their age. The fee for adults is $10 payable directly to NYS upon passing the test at completion. This course is taught in four sessions by certified instructors from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary., Registration begins Tuesday, March 4 at the circulation desk.
