Babylon Jr. Sr. High School focus on healthy living
In celebration of Health and Wellness Week, Babylon Junior-Senior High School students in grades seven through twelve had a visit from two health professionals from the local area. Yoga and Pilates manager Dina SantaMaria and chiropractor, spa owner, and nutrition specialist Dr. Donna Brown, both from Babylon's Fitness Incentive gym, spoke with more than 150 of the school's students during a physical education class about the importance of living a healthy life.
Exercise, making healthy choices, and diet and nutrition were just some of the subjects discussed during the program. The students were interested to learn the difference between physical activity and exercise, as well how to incorporate small changes into their life in order to initiate change. "Every action that you take has a consequence," stated Dr. Brown. "You don't have to eliminate all of the foods you enjoy that might not be the best for you - just 'choose up' when you can. Instead of always selecting white pasta, chose a whole-grain brand from time to time."
