Ghanem Foundation supports Good Shepherd Hospice's new inpatient center

Shown, left to right, are Charles Spencer, trustee, Good Shepherd Hospice; Marianne Gillan, president and CEO, Good Shepherd Hospice; Bruce Laperuta and Rosemary Devine of the Elias and Jody Ghanem Charitable Foundation.
The Elias and Jody Ghanem Charitable Foundation presented a check for $5,000 to Good Shepherd Hospice at the Holiday Lights of Love ceremony held at Astoria Federal Savings in Babylon. This contribution will be applied to the $25,000 pledge that the Foundation recently made to the Hospice Inpatient Center at Port Jefferson. In recognition for the Foundation's commitment, the Nursing Substation #2 will be named in memory of Dr. Elias Ghanem, and patient suite #8 will be furnished in memory of Rosemarie Laperuta.

Dr. Elias Ghanem, the late husband of Jody Ghanem, was a highly regarded physician who founded the first 24-hour medical clinic in Las Vegas. He is credited with changing how medical care is provided in Las Vegas and was dubbed "the physician to the stars." His patients included Elvis Presley, Liberace, Michael Jackson and many sports celebrities. Mrs. Ghanem has made donations in her late husband's name in order to keep his memory alive on Long Island, where she maintains a home.
