West Islip's Haunted House at Halloween

West Islip's Haunted House, created by two high school students, was by all reports the biggest and best yet since the girls first introduced it several years ago. The students, Andrea Kendrick and Samantha Sforza, and their families and friends spent four weeks building the Haunted House in order to provide a safe and fun Halloween for youngsters, while also highlighting the community's Lionheart Fund. Donations to the event were sought at $5 per visitor.

This year's event raised $4,265 for the fund that was started by West Islip school administrators in the wake of the Twin Towers attacks on September 11th. Twenty-four West Islip children lost a parent that day. Now, the fund assists neighbors in crisis.

Shown in the photo are Andrea Kendrick and Samantha Sforza as they presented the donation to Principal Ken Hartill, a member of the Lionheart Committee. With the girls are their parents. "Setting up the Haunted House is always a wonderful experience," says Kendrick, "and to know that we're also helping Lionheart makes it that much more special." Last year's donation was $2,700, so the girls were very happy with the amount they collected this year.
