West Islip FD monthly statistics The West Islip Fire Department released the total number of responses they made to emergency calls for the month of December, as well as its annual figures. The Department responded to 201 calls in December and a total of 2,499 calls in the year 2007. This annual total was up slightly from the year 2006, which saw a total of 2,465 calls during the year. "This rise in calls in the year 2007 reflects normal fluctuations, and this is expected throughout the years," said Michael Delgado, chief of the West Islip Fire Department. The month of December represented a decrease compared to the summer months, when the West Islip Fire Department responded to 286 calls in August alone. The highest volume of calls the Department responded to in December were EMS calls, where the West Islip Fire Department answered 130 calls. Among the areas the Department assisted with outside of their jurisdiction included Babylon, Bay Shore, Brentwood and North Babylon.
"We are very proud of the brave men and women of our Department who stand ready to help our neighbors at any time, and for their diligent work on the community's behalf during the busy holiday season," added Delgado.
