Police make arrests at West Islip bar; NYS Liquor Authority notified

Five people were arrested at a West Islip bar for selling alcohol to minors and the bar's bouncer was charged with being an unlicensed security guard.

The arrests took place Jan. 10 at 11:30 p.m. at Zoinks Bar, 401 Sunrise Highway.

Suffolk County Police Third Precinct Crime Section Officers, in conjunction with Third Precinct COPE and Patrol Officers, assisted by Islip Town Code Enforcement and Fire Marshals, conducted a State Liquor Authority inspection there. The operation was in response to multiple complaints of underage drinking at that location.

During the inspection, the two bartenders, Mandie Catalano, age 21, of 30 Baylawn Avenue, Copiague, and Christopher Cardone, age 27, of 355 West 2nd Street, West Islip, were arrested and charged with Unlawfully Dealing with a Child 1st Degree for selling alcohol to minors. Both owners, Michael Lyden, age 38, of 122 Awixa Ave., Bay Shore, and Timothy Freisem, age 33, of 282 Edgewood Street, Islip Terrace, were arrested and charged with Employment of Unlicensed Security Guards and Permitting the Sale of Alcohol to a Minor. The bouncer , Richard Ancona, age 22, of 16 Skipper Drive, West Islip, was arrested and charged with being an Unlicensed Security Guard.

All the above charges are unclassified Misdemeanors. The defendants were released on Station House Bail and will appear at First District Court on a future date.

The Town of Islip's Code Enforcement and Fire Marshals issued several summonses for various town code violations including overcrowding. The business is allowed 135 persons and over 180 were present.

A referral was also made to the NYS Liquor Authority and the owners will be required to appear at a NYS Liquor Authority hearing on a future date, regarding their license to sell alcohol based on this incident.
