Babylon Grade School recognized for participation in “Operation Share a Spirit”

Students in the Babylon Memorial Grade School were recognized recently for their participation in "Operation Share A Spirit," a program designed to send U.S. troops overseas gifts, cards and other items for the holiday.

The program, sponsored by Summit Security Services in Uniondale, was described by Summit organizers as a tremendous success, in part due to the work and generosity of Babylon students and that of Girls Scouts from Troop 672 in Suffolk County. This is the sixth year Summit continues this holiday tradition.

The presents for the soldiers included fleece blankets, DVDs, CDs, books, snacks, AT&T phone cards, holiday decorations and many other amenities homesick soldiers might miss.

"The children's incredibly heartfelt notes promise to warm the hearts of the soldiers as they did ours," said Robert Auletta, Co-President Summit Security Services. "The holidays are a time to reflect on how thankful we are for the troops and their sacrifices. It is our hope these simple gifts will bring a touch of home to these brave men and women."

To let the students know just how much their efforts are appreciated Summit Security Services employees and U.S. Army Capt. Nicholas Auletta, who has served two tours in Iraq, went to the Grade School to speak with the students. Capt. Auletta shared stories and answered the students' questions which ranged from "What type of pets do soldiers have in Iraq to Why did we start the war?

It was a beautiful occasion that help stimulate patriotism and political awareness for everyone involved in the program said a Summit spokesman.
