Police make arrest in June bank robbery

Suffolk County Police Major Case Investigations Unit arrested a man from Staten Island for the June 18 robbery at the Ridgewood Saving Bank branch, 317 South Wellwood Ave., Lindenhurst.

Charged this week in that case was Rodger W. Devodier, 43, who has no permanent address. He was charged with robbery, 1st degree.

In addition,Devodier is charged with grand larceny , 4th degree, for the theft of the vehicle used in commission of the robbery. He is also being held on a warrant for violating parole.

Devodier was held overnight at the 7th Precinct in Shirley and appeared in First District Court, Wednesday, Jan. 9.

Police said that Devodier entered the bank and approached a teller with a note demanding cash. He then displayed a silver colored handgun to reinforce his demands. The teller complied with the robber's demands and gave him cash. She also gave him a dye pack from the drawer. The robber left the bank and the dye pack activated. A motorist observing the red smoke from the dye pack followed the Devodier on East Gates Avenue and then to South First Street where the robber entered a red Mazda.
