Deer Park High School hosted the third annual Deer Park For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Invitational. With support from the School-Business Partnerships of Long Island this post-season robotics competition included teams from 17 high schools.

Students who participated are: Omair Ahmed, Safra Bacchus, Brett Burnor, Nolan Calamia, Shane Charumaneeroj, JP Cotrone, Melissa D'Amaio, Chris D'Italta, Dan Dowd, Julian Duff, Marcus Johnson, George Kellarakos, Kayla Larkin, WilliamLee, Laura Mignosi, Mike Page, Johnny Ramirez, Gina Sepe, Sam Swindell, Jonathan Trautwig, Ashwin Varughese, Christine Verughese, Tabith Wertheim and Catherine Xie.

The FIRST Robotics Competition is a national program that challenges teams of students and their mentors to design and build an approximate 130-pound robot in a six-week timeframe using a standard kit and a common set of rules. School robotics programs introduce and connect students to the science of physics and the field of engineering. They provide an enjoyable, engaging learning environment where they are able to enhance problem solving skills, cooperation and teamwork.

In the competition, Deer Park High School's Robot 270 prevailed in 'Rack 'N' Roll,' an event where robots were expected to place tubes onto a central metal apparatus. Deer Park, along with their alliance partners West Islip and Grady High School (Brooklyn), took first place in the competition. Despite their robot sustaining a "broken arm" in the semi-finals, Deer Park won the last two out of three events to take the title.
