Frances Bliss of Babylon, former Good Samaritan nurse

Frances M. Bliss was a woman who devoted herself to her family. A longtime resident of Babylon, she died on November 13, 2007 in Port Orange, Florida. She was 96 years old and lived on Litchfield Avenue for many years.

Born in Manhattan, she raised her family in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn and later in Babylon. In 2006 she moved to Port Orange, Florida to live with her daughter Carol and her family.

"My mother was very forgiving and very understanding person," said her daughter, Carol. "She always put her family first and took great pride in caring for us."

During the 1960s she worked at Babylon grade school as a lunch aide. In the 60s and 70s she was a recovery room nurse's aide in Good Samaritan Hospital's Operating Room.

Mrs. Bliss leaves behind her children: Frances Vicari, Carol Bowden and Leon; her ten grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and her niece Virginia Daly. She was predeceased by her husband of 46 years, Leon and her daughter Deborah Tonkin.

She reposed at the Claude R. Boyd-Spencer Funeral Home, Babylon Village, on November 16, 2007. A Funeral Mass was said on November 17, 2007 at Our Lady of Grace Church followed by interment in North Babylon Cemetery.
