Youth struck and injured by  van in Deer Park

An 18-year old Deer Park man was struck and seriously injured in an auto accident Dec. 29. Police gave this account.    At approximately 9:15 p.m., Richard Moritz, 45, of 32 Albany Avenue, Deer Park, was driving a 2002 Ford van northbound on Carl’s Path in Deer Park.  In front of 451 Carl’s Path, Moritz’s van struck Peter Hom, 18, of 106 Irving Avenue, Deer Park.  A witness stated that Mr. Hom was standing a few feet into the roadway as he was talking to friends, and he was wearing dark clothing.     Hom was transported by Deer Park Fire Rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition with head trauma.  Moritz was not injured.      The van was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
