Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center Nurse Renee Schacker, RN, shown center, was honored by the Long Island Health Network as a "Hero of Healthcare" during its recent annual symposium attended by some 700 nurses, doctors and other caregivers. Schacker was among 21 outstanding professionals from across the network's 10 member-hospitals to be recognized for their spirit and commitment to their patients and healing. Presenting the award were LIHN's President and CEO Brian Currie and Senior Vice President Kathleen Masiulis, right. Setting a tone of caring and compassion was this year's keynote speaker, Dr. Patch Adams, whose unique approach to medicine was depicted in a hit Hollywood movie starring Robin Williams. LIHN hospitals have worked cooperatively as a clinically integrated joint venture to institute standards of care and efficiency that have improved clinical quality and results, while saving tens of millions of dollars.
