Two youths arrested for making bomb threats in West Islip

Suffolk County Police arrested two 13-year-old West Islip Middle School students yesterday, charging them with writing a note stating there was a bomb at the Beach Street Middle School they attended. The arrests were made following a police investigation. Police gave this account:

The threatening note was found at approximately 11:40 a.m. at the school, located at 17 Beach Street. Students were evacuated to the West Islip High School. The middle school was checked, but no device was found.

Investigation by the Third Squad led to the arrest of two 13-year-old students. Detectives charged the two with falsely reporting an incident, 1st degree. They will be arraigned in Family Court at a later date. The investigation is continuing.

"The Suffolk County Police Department deserves credit for tracking down those who engage in the dangerous practice of issuing bomb threats," said S. C. Exec. Steve Levy. "Bomb threats are not kids play; they are serious business that can lead to serious consequences."
